Who: Other businesses do fall into the non discriminatory act, and therefore hire more disabled employees in order to make the company look better, especially on the corporate end. Although, only through my experiences, and through interviewing a few friends that work in other big chain establishments, such as Walmart, who seem to hire more equally, and also seem to show a stronger interest in the employees they hire, compared to Publix. This is the case because Walmart's image is a lot less highly regarded compared to Publix, from talking to friends that work at both establishments and it seems that Walmarts hiring process is much more in depth and there are follow up interviews, unlike Publix.
What: This need can be disputed with not having a job at all, if it was not for Publix hiring more physically and mentally disabled people, who would? That is a strong argument against mine, considering that the unemployment rate in America is still a controversial issue, and my argument is to be more strict with the hiring process because in many cases, disabled people can not handle the work efficiency and time required of them.
Why: The need of the outsiders (disabled people wanting jobs, general US economy) is definitely going to weigh in heavier because more of the population would agree with the outsiders.
Inside the boundary
-Potential Publix employees .
-Disabled people hired by Publix
using are not physically qualified
to meet their high demands and other
people lose opportunity to work for
Publix. Needs more thorough
application process
-Exists because usually
disabled people quit once they
realize what they signed up for and
more qualified people lose an opportunity.
Outside the boundary
-Other companies like Walmart are
not involved in this, along with their employees
-The need is not beneficial for job growth for disabled people.
-Another explanation is that everyone does deserve to be under the same hiring process regardless of disability.

8A Solving the Problem
One solution I have for Publix's bad hiring process is to invest in better applications, with surveys and real life scenarios so the applicants are aware of what is actually required of them. Replacing the old computers that have pre built applications from years ago is also very important because advancements in technology and management teams of each store change, also some stores are busier than others so they require a more extensive application process in general. Although this issue can also be fixed by simply being more thorough when looking through applications and instead of instantly hiring applicants, to take them through a test phase of a stores busy day and see how they react. This issue is also a morality one dealing with why Publix hires disabled applicants over not disabled ones, and corporate seems to take the equal employer act route, although that is not solving the problem, but simply making it worse by hiring employees that are not aware of what they are getting into.
7A Testing the Hypothesis
Publix Supermarkets is a non discriminatory hiring establishment, so when they get applications from people with physical disabilities, mental disabilities or any other documented issue, they prioritize them above regular applicants. But once a physically disabled person is hired, they are unaware of the rigorous requirements and physicality needed to be successful when it comes to working at Publix, especially in customer service, or backroom stocking.
Hypothesis: Publix can prioritize all applications equally through a more extensive application process in order to hire more applicable employees that can handle the tasks of being a Publix member.
Who: Publix Supermarkets
What: Publix holds people with disabilities over regular people in the application process.
Why: In order to establish a better company reputation.
Testing the who: This issue regards Publix, the applicants, and the management staff that trains new applicants. Everyone is affected differently.
Testing the what: Boundaries include statistics for how many disabled employees Publix hired because that number is unknown to me, but from working at three Publix's Ive noticed a huge increase in disabled people hired over people that are more capable of the job but lose the opportunity. I am not suggesting to discriminate who Publix hires, but a more effective hiring process needs to be in place.
Testing the why: Some people may not see the problem, but Publix requires fast paced employees that are completely aware of their surroundings and a lot of the time when disabled people apply, they do not know what they are getting into and end up quitting.
I interviewed five people, three of them I currently work with and two of them are disabled employees that recently quit. The general consensus that I received from the disabled employees was that the requirements written on paper are nowhere near accurate compared to the actual demanding requirements of working at Publix, one previous employee stated that the management staff plays a huge role in telling you the job is not so tough, but once the store gets busy (which is often), that is when being fast and extremely efficient is so important when it comes to getting carts, bagging, cashiering and overall keeping the store clean. A friend that I work with, and interviewed told me that corporate hires the employees and the management staff deals with training which is another example of how corporate simply does not care.
Overall, I learned that this issue is talked about very often amongst Publix employees, also this problem resides with corporate, and needs serious addressing because the disabled that are hired, seem to end up hating the job and quitting half the time. This also takes away from capable applicants that get their application overlooked simply because they wont make Publix look morally outstanding. But the problem can be easily fixed but efforts by management and corporate are hard to track. Publix management possibly blames the individual themselves not being able to carry out tasks required of them but this issue is far too common in Publix stores to be coincidental.

6A Identifying Opportunities in Economic and Regulatory Trends
1. (Economic Trend) Fading Energy Drags - I found this topic from JPMorgan Chase online website that discusses economic trends of 2018. This trend is unexpected and discusses the rise in fuel prices recently and how demanded fuel is, despite the advancement in electric energy technology, especially in transportation. An opportunity that I see here is for car companies to produce more gasoline required vehicles, because a lot of companies would have guessed that by now, due to the advancement of companies like Tesla, that regular oil needs would be lower, but they are firm and remain firm. Prototypical customer would have to be families, that require transportation, and usually have a budget. This opportunity is not easily exploitable simply because a huge portion of the population is still shifting focus towards more efficient means of energy. I saw this as an opportunity because from my experience, people are resilient to change, and theres a huge learning curve to owning vehicles like Tesla products, so someone else might say Tesla is revolutionizing the world, but in my opinion they are too early to make a drastic change, so for now, exploiting fuel would really help the economy.

2. (Regulatory Law) Tax reform taking hold - Found this topic from JPMorgan Chase online, and it discusses a new legislation that will cut federal revenue by $205 billion which will leave more money in the consumers hands. Should support faster growth in the GDP, I think this is exploitable through new businesses as a capital investment because more money means more opportunity. Only issue is it is hard to predict how this will effect the economy simply because there is not a lot of historical evidence to make a good prediction.

3. (Regulatory Law) New amendment made to help small businesses reform after natural disasters. I found this new regulatory action on the official congress website and I see an opportunity for small businesses to open up, especially with this change to help them in case of a crisis, especially considering hurricane Florence is hitting soon. Ideal customer for this is anyone looking to open or maintain their small business, this new amendment can really reduce stress of anyone that has to look after their own business, especially due to the severity hurricane Florence might reach.

4. (Economic Trend) iPhone XS - This is an economic trend that I notice every year and it regards to iPhones in specific. Case and screen protector manufacturers and sellers have been releasing phone cases for upcoming phones earlier than the phones release, and people are generally ordering them before they even order their new iPhone. I see a huge potential for case companies to start pre releasing phone cases, and people will pre order. This is a profitable idea to exploit because iPhones are getting more and more expensive every year, and especially this year with all of their new products being made of primarily glass, people are going to be willing to spend more on cases to protect their device. Ideal customer for this is the average millennial with a steady income. The only drawback could be the amount of case companies their are causing an overflow of cases which would saturate the phone accessory market.

-Funding for the Tampa area is shifting its focus, preferably away from non profit organizations
-Local non profit organization television channels are getting little to no funding, which caused a cancellation of local channels in Tampa, more specifically childrens entertainment and education networks.
-Tampa locals are the ones dealing with this issue, more specifically the local industry that is fighting to keep the childrens channels alive
4. -Hot Car Death Cases are Treated Differently

-Babies dying in hot car cases are usually dealt in a court of law differently, with some parents getting arrested instantly and others going to trial for over a year.
-Tampa locals feel these cases need more strict action for the childs sake
-The general population seems to be dealing with this problem because some cases take too long to deliver justice.

-Mortgage fraud has become a lot more prevalent recently.
-Mortgage fraud is at an extreme high, especially in the state of Florida, ranking 3rd in mortgage fraud, the issue is found 1 in every 109 applications.
-The government has to deal with this issue and resolve the monetary loss from the mortgage fraud by taking it out of people's taxes, which also makes it the Florida populations problem to resolve in order to pay less in taxes.

4A Opportunity Conceptualization
1. One bug I have that is extremely common in Gainesville is Cox Internet provider. Cox holds a monopoly over Gainesville and I believe this problem can be fixed.
2. Everyone in Gainesville deals with Cox media, students, professors, regular citizens, etc. The need for fast and reliable internet has always been desired, and people work hard to be able to afford this need. I feel somewhat confident (60%) that there is an opportunity to fix this unmet need for fast and reliable internet.
3. The prototypical customer is a University of Florida student, because having reliable and speedy internet is a must. First person I talked to was a computer science major studying full time at UF
4. The computer science major stated he has a need for reliable internet all the time, has required this need since starting out at UF and realizing how everything is now being turned in online. He says he is not satisfied with this need because Cox is unreliable and crashes occasionally and abruptly. He found a solution through using a wired ethernet cable for internet because a wired connection is stronger, but wireless is advertised to be just as reliable.
5. I learned that this particular student turns in his work online all the time, like myself, and having your internet spontaneously crash on you is a serious problem.
3. I talked to my family friend of mine who works from home in Gainesville.
4. She noticed that Cox internet and cable was a bundle price, and she could not choose to just pay for just the internet. She has no need for the cable, but she desires to use the internet all the time. She deals with paying for both programs now but has wanted to opt out many times but can not go to another service provider.
5. I learned that some regular Gainesville citizens are also angry with the internet because of the way Cox bundles their packages.
3. Lastly, I talked to my roommate who had a lot to say about Cox media internet.
4. My roommate has called Cox to fix his faulty router numerous times and he stated they take days to come and help fix his problem, he has needed internet his whole life and was sad to see the downgrade in speed from Comcast to Cox internet since moving to Gainesville, he needs internet to FaceTime, study, and check up on everything when it comes to school and his work. He currently deals with the internet cutting off my using a hotspot from his phones data plan.
5. I learned that my roommate received horrible customer service from Cox and that they are not reliable at helping current customers either.
Reflection: I feel a lot of my original opportunity is still there, although it is somewhat out of my control. Firstly, I never noticed the bundling issue, with people wanting Cox internet but have to pay for one price for the internet and cable, which is more expensive. Also I noticed that Cox is not reliable in any area of Gainesville when it comes to customer service. My opportunity is still palpable, although finding a way to bring better internet to Gainesville is a serious challenge. Getting feedback from users was so important because if no one had a problem with Cox, there would be no need to fix the internet unreliability, so customer feedback, in my opinion, is the most important aspect of solving a problem. Overall, entrepreneurs need to adapt their opportunities based on the realism of being able to solve the problem and through customer feedback

My Entrepreneurship Story
In 5th grade, my school was offering a candy selling business, in order to fund for the 5th graders trip to Disney. The rules were, that if you sold two boxes (100 Candy Bars), that would fund your entire trip to Disney. Students had the option to not participate but they would not be able to go on the trip, although I was determined to sell two boxes because I had never been to Disney and really wanted to go. I first began selling candy and noticed that rejection is hard, especially when I wanted to eagerly sell the candy, but over time I began selling more and more and eventually sold all the candy bars. That experience really humbled me as a child because it was one of those times where my goal and my way to achieve my goal were through my own means, and not my parents or my teachers efforts.
I enrolled in ENT3003 because I wanted more insight on running a business, my goal after my bachelors is to attend Chiropractor school and receive my license to open up my own practice, and everyone has been telling me that that requires a lot of business skill. Also I had to take a 3000 elective, and this class seemed like a happy medium for what I was looking for. Mainly I hope to get a lot of knowledge about how to run a successful business by the end of this class.

Bug List
1. The Chik-Fil-A on Archer road always has a long line on weekdays. This bug exists because it is the only Chik-Fil-A in Gainesville besides the small one on campus.
2. The price of gas in Gainesville is expensive, especially compared to northern Florida cities. This bug exists because of the demand of gas for UF students to ride their vehicles to the campus.
3. Turlington is always packed with students and tabling events. This bug exists because UF only allows a small window for students to table their events and get new members during the first few weeks of school.
4. Rent in apartments near UF campus is exceptionally expensive. This bug exists because if students do not have cars they have to walk to campus and apartment complexes play on that need and increase prices.
5. 80% of the business courses at UF are online only classes. I am not completely sure why this bug exists but I assume it has to do with the availability of classrooms in Heavener compared to the amount of courses offered in the business school making UF turn most of the courses into online only ones.
6. Internet is not very fast or reliable in Gainesville. This bug exists because Gainesville partners with Cox internet and television so the only option is to use their products.
7. UF advisors are not reliable in helping you graduate on time. This bug exists because the advisors like to suggest minors and extra degrees so you remain a student and paying UF money.
8. Prices of iPhones are increasing each year, especially if you want to buy them off of your carriers network. This is a bug because iPhones have taken a strong lead over Android phones in being the top phone hardware and software in the market because of their compatibility with so many devices, and their ease of use, as well as popularity.
9. Netflix has been lacking on adding new and popular shows and movies to their line up. This bug exists because Netflix has no real need to get more sales because so many households already have a Netflix subscription.
10. UF requires you attend a summer semester, but does not provide financial aid for summer courses. This bug exists because colleges are a business first and see a possible profit off of requiring summer classes.
11. The Wendy's on campus does not have the 4 for $4 deal. This bug exists because Wendy's is a UF sponsor and they do not provide any of the deals offered at Wendy's chains.
12. The Walmart on SW is always busy. This is a bug because that Walmart is extremely conveniently located and is the only Walmart near campus, making it that much more appealing to students.
13. Maintenance requests at Lexington Crossing are not met until days after the request has been made. This bug exists because the amount of residents to maintenance staff members is completely uneven, and especially within the first few weeks of school when everyone has requests it is hard to meet them as quickly as they promise.
14. Marston Library never has any parking spots available near its location. This bug exists because east campus is always so busy due to its convenience to students that there is rarely any parking available.
15. The only pizza you can buy on UF campus is Papa Johns. This bug exists because Papa Johns is a UF sponsor and therefore limits the college to only provide their menu items on campus, and for campus organizations.
16. Ross stores no longer receive exclusive sports brand apparels. This bug exists because people used to buy their sports brand products for cheap from Ross then resell at a higher price online which is illegal.
17. Guest parking spots in Canopy Apartments are extremely small and can barely compact cars. This bug exists because Canopy is trying to minimize room for guest parking cars in order to make more room for regular parking spots and scooter parking.
18. My roommates never do the dishes. This bug exists because they are both out and about all the time, so when they are home they just eat, leave their dirty dishes on the sink, and then leave.
19. Can't play FortNite on a MacBook. This bug exists because Macs do not have the capability or hardware to handle online gaming.
20. Gas station air tire pumps on Archer only take quarters, they don't have card payment options. This bug exists because the gas station companies in Gainesville have not updated to new systems that allow card payments.
Reflection: The bug list was extremely difficult for me to compose. The main reason it was so difficult is because I had to start looking at everything in my life through a negative perspective where I am picking at every single problem I come across. The list took me two days to put together, but I see the genuine value of this assignment and now I am eager to try to fix these problems in my life, and this is how most entrepreneurs start off, by finding an unmet need.
