9A Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Who: Other businesses do fall into the non discriminatory act, and therefore hire more disabled employees in order to make the company look better, especially on the corporate end. Although, only through my experiences, and through interviewing a few friends that work in other big chain establishments, such as Walmart, who seem to hire more equally, and also seem to show a stronger interest in the employees they hire, compared to Publix. This is the case because Walmart's image is a lot less highly regarded compared to Publix, from talking to friends that work at both establishments and it seems that Walmarts hiring process is much more in depth and there are follow up interviews, unlike Publix.

What: This need can be disputed with not having a job at all, if it was not for Publix hiring more physically and mentally disabled people, who would? That is a strong argument against mine, considering that the unemployment rate in America is still a controversial issue, and my argument is to be more strict with the hiring process because in many cases, disabled people can not handle the work efficiency and time required of them.

Why: The need of the outsiders (disabled people wanting jobs, general US economy) is definitely going to weigh in heavier because more of the population would agree with the outsiders.

Inside the boundary
-Potential Publix employees .
-Disabled people hired by Publix
using are not physically qualified
to meet their high demands and other
people lose opportunity to work for
Publix. Needs more thorough
application process
-Exists because usually
disabled people quit once they
realize what they signed up for and
more qualified people lose an opportunity.

Outside the boundary
-Other companies like Walmart are
not involved in this, along with their employees
-The need is not beneficial for job growth for disabled people.
-Another explanation is that everyone does deserve to be under the same hiring process regardless of disability.

  1. Millaed,

Nice to meet you- I enjoyed reading your take on bad employment practices at places like Publix. This is an issue I did not realize existed in the context of hiring someone who is disabled. It is unfortunate to hear that this is how Publix treats the process because it sends the message to disabled people that Publix only cares about their disability and not about other qualifying aspects of their interview. This is the kind of issue that regularly comes up when the government enforces an employment act without defining how it should be carried out to ensure fairness.
